Dual-Clutch Transmission (DCT) - Working

Dual-Clutch Transmission (DCT) Working

“Don't wait for the right moment to start, start and make each moment right.”
Roy T. Bennett

Typically every vehicles use transmission unit to regulate torque and speed for demanded conditions. A dual-clutch transmission is the one among this which works under both manually and automatically with separate clutches and controls. This DCT can help us to increase and decrease the speed without any deficiency in power transfer.

Construction inside this DCT is similar to manual transmission but its quite intelligible i.e two separate clutches are used here with different circumferences, one clutch adapts with even gear sets and another clutch adapts with odd ones with perfect arrangements. This placements are in single housing with single control. Any one clutch is always engaged with flywheel of the engine. Unexpected thing in this transmission is rejection of clutch pedal and functioning like automatic.

I will get your mind voice " Previously you said its a manual transmission, now you says it shifts the gear without clutch pedal like AT then how DCT will works ? "

The above picture shows a look of DCT's gear shifter. Here four general modes of parking, reverse, neutral and drive seems like AT but in drive mode we can vary the speed high or low by giving slight movement to gear shifter. Assume if the car drives in second gear with one clutch engaging, then third gear in the another clutch is arranged at that time and get ready for your command to shift. If you increase the gear, instantly even clutch disengaged second gear and odd clutch gets engaged with third gear and vice versa while decreasing the gears. This will takes place without any power deficiency.

For changing this gears with separate clutches side by side, clutch pedal is not required here. This will helps vehicle to maintain power flow from the engine during transmission invariably and achieve the better performance precisely, also reduces driver's effort. Dry and wet clutches are used depend on loads (torque) of an engine. This dual-clutch transmission was first implemented in 2003 Volkswagen Golf R32 with the name called Direct-Shift Gearbox.
