Zero shift transmission technology - a seamless AMT

A seamless AMT - what does it mean?.
Inherently, all of us drives a car with well-known types of transmission, such as manual transmission(MT) and automatic transmission(AT). An MT has a few pros, like fuel economy, more efficiency, and easy to manufacture and maintain because of fewer parts still, some difficulties are conquering, such as gear shifts are sometimes not smooth. An AT is easy for driving, and smooth gear engagement takes place, but efficiency is comparatively low. Both transmissions required some torque interruptions in the time of gear shifting.

Zero shift transmission sets both issues right by allowing simultaneously good fuel economy, performance, and shift quality without interruptions. Construction-wise is similar to the synchromesh gearbox. Instead of the synchromesh ring, zero shift rings are implanted and act as a pair (two halves with bullets at each) by representing a dog engagement type transmission. The rings are independently actuated using solenoids. The clutch-by-wire unit regulates a speed difference across the clutch during the shift, allowing the energy spike to be monitored and conditioned to suit the driving conditions. This transmission can be suitable for automated manual transmission(AMT) and manual transmission with intelligence(iMT).

In this transmission, interruption of torque to the driving wheels is avoided while instantaneous gear shifting. In theory, the zero shift mechanism is quite simple (i.e.) the next gear (2)  is engaged even the previous gear (1) is still driving. After gear (2) takes up the drive, the former gear (1) is disengaged and actuated automatically. This mechanism eliminates the discontinuity in torque output and achieves gear shifting more smoother.

Technically speaking, the first ring is engaged to take a drive whereas the second ring is moved afterward to kick off the backlash. To perform this gearshift, assume that the drive proceeds in 1st gear, using the blue colored bullet ring. As the speed increases gradually, the unloaded red bullet ring moves towards the 2nd gear and gets engaged. Now the 2nd gear takes the drive then the blue ring is actuated over to 2nd gear to avoid adverse reaction.

This transmission has been used on racing cars to eliminate deceleration while gear shifting. This mechanism is considered very suitable for increasing transmission efficiency. Due to zero interruption, performance is improved. This zero shift is inexpensive to produce compared to Dual-Clutch Transmission(DCT) and Automatic Transmission(AT).  It is very similar to MT, the only thing added is shift actuation. This seamless transmission reduces the loss of control (traction) at the time of shifting the gear.
