Formula E's FanBoost
Every sport around the globe has more uniqueness in rules and regulations, not only to contestants, including fans too. Accordingly, Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile's (FIA) Formula E Championship, one of the evolving motorsport, has an attractive rule that offers fans to direct the race.

How fans direct the race?

Generally, FanBoost is an option provided by FIA, especially for the fans to nominate their favorite drivers through voting. It makes the race more electrifying because fans have an opportunity to decide the outcome of the championship.

How this feature gets worked?

Formula E cars can produce a maximum power output of 250kW (equivalent to 335 bhp). While in race mode, the power ready for use is 200kW (equivalent to 270 bhp). Approximately, the drivers can utilize power from 150 to 180kW while racing. By the fans' nomination, the leading five drivers in the voting can get FanBoost (i.e.,) each of five drivers gets speed burst up to 5 seconds per car. How?
Suppose the driver receives FanBoost, a little pedal behind the steering wheel gets activated. Respectively the driver can get extra power up to 25kW, which is 10% more than the usual. Using this, the driver can speed up the car while overtaking and also have a chance to win the race. Drivers are permitted to use this feature only in the second half of the race for once.

This FanBoost voting option is enabled on Formula E's official website 12 days before the endurance race and active until 16 minutes after the race gets starts. The top 5 drivers have announced 20 minutes before the race.

How can we know when the driver uses FanBoost?

Formula E's FanBoost in Halo safety device

In Formula 1 and Formula E cars, a safety device named Halo, which has fitted above the cockpit for driver's protection. In that Halo device, an LED loop has integrated on the top. This LED shows the mode of racing that the driver employs. If the driver uses FanBoost, the LED series glows in magenta. This FanBoost creates many flip-flops during the race. Also, this feature shows fan support for the drivers.
